IMS Leadership

Derek Turner, MBA, MA
Principal / CEO
Derek is responsible for the ongoing excellence of IMS. He manages marketing, client services, and recruitment in addition to larger strategic initiatives at the company, ensuring that IMS continues to serve our clients with excellence, be a great place to work, and make a positive impact on the world. Prior to leading IMS, Derek was in the technology sector, including being on the founding team of a venture-backed software training company and working at software companies focused on marketing and behavioral health.

Zac Thomason, MBA
Director of Client Services
​Zac is responsible for the overall direction and management of the client services team here at IMS. While managing the central U.S. and Western Canada region, he also serves as a resource in all IMS regions to support business development initiatives, proposal development, client management/relationships, and project management activities.  Zac’s experience in asset management and commitment to building strong client relationships places him in a great position to lead the entire IMS marketing team. Before joining IMS in 2006, Zac was a marketing professional in the physical therapy industry and student at Arizona State University (Go Devils!)


Jim Tourek
West Region Client Services Manager

As the primary point of contact for our West Region clients, Jim Tourek develops the project scope, schedule, and team and is responsible for overall project management. Jim works closely with the Principal Engineer and ensures the project deliverables are timely and accurate. Jim has 30 years of project management experience within the engineering and construction industries, and has led over 100 successful pavement management assignments for IMS. Prior to Jim's tenure with IMS, he worked in both the public and private sector including military installations, state and local agencies, and national construction entities as an account executive and client manager.

Jeff Myers
Central Region Client Services Manager

Jeff is responsible for overall project and client management activities in the Central Region. He develops the project scope, schedule, team, and ensures the scope is adhered to throughout the project. Jeff works very closely with the Project Principal and is considered a primary point of contact for our clients. Before joining IMS, Jeff was instrumental in developing territories for several technology companies in the Public sector, including Library automation and Higher Education HR software.

Nick Golden
Midwest Region Client Services Manager

Nick Golden is responsible for recruiting new clients by educating them on the benefits of automated pavement data collection with IMS. Nick also makes sure the client is taken care of during the entire life of the project, including updating clients on continued progress of the data collection, help interpreting the data once it is collected, and presenting the data to council members and citizens. Before joining IMS, Nick worked with a company that produced pavement maintenance products and equipment and managed each of his client's projects until completed. 

Dan White
East Region Client Services Manager

Dan White is responsible for the development of IMS's presence in under-served areas of the eastern United States. Dan coordinates the project pipeline for small and large projects in 8 states to build long-term partnerships with each client. Dan is also responsible for maintaining a fresh approach to marketing materials and is an avid supporter of all things Detroit. Dan finished his Bachelors degree in International Business prior to joining IMS and is currently focusing on an MBA in Project Management.

Mike Powell
IT/Technical Support Manager

Mike Powell, over the past 27 years has collected and processed over 400
installations of programs and systems. His primary responsibilities include trouble shooting the data and application of information derived from programs, data collections, processing and systems; constantly improving any functions that are in need. He also handles the IT department and supports clients, field and office in all computer needs.

Alex Mourtsen, MS
GIS Manager

Alex Mourtsen is the management point for GIS and Map activities at IMS. He is responsible for prepping and loading maps to the proprietary software used by the RST for routing as well as facilitating day to day map requests for clients and crew. Mr. Mourtsen provides a geospatial perspective that helps us translate unique GIS and data variables into successful projects. Before joining IMS, Alex attended Northern Arizona University earning a Masters in Applied Geospatial Science.

Anthony Conyers, MBA
Principal / CFO

Anthony leads the finance and operations teams at IMS. He is responsible for managing the internal financial controls personnel, interfacing with and scheduling the amazing crews, and driving the company's data management processes. He is passionate about delivering timely, high-quality data to clients, testing new and exciting technologies, and building a versatile team. Prior to IMS, Anthony worked in investment banking and ran a small manufacturing company.

​Stephen J. Smith, P.E., P. ENG.
Senior Project Manager

Stephen provides project management capabilities on assignments where his background in integrated infrastructure management and municipal engineering is best suited. Mr. Smith has fulfilled the role of project manager and engineer on over 150 pavement, infrastructure and engineering assignments. He has over 20 years experience implementing pavement and right-of-way asset management solutions. Mr. Smith's project experience includes participating in the planning, management, training, data collection, and implementation and development of capital improvement budgets.

​David Butler, P.E.
Senior Project Manager

Based on his background in pavement management, David Butler has been responsible for the quality control of field data collected using the Road Surface Tester for pavement surface distress and the Dynaflect for pavement structure. He has been responsible for the quality of data on well over a million pavement sections in North America. He also has extensive knowledge of deflection theory and how it relates to pavement life expectancy. The training of agency personnel in pavement management theory and the application of information derived from programs and systems has been one of Mr. Butler's primary responsibilities.

Tammy Rowe
Field Manager

Tammy's role is to effectively manage, develop and provide clear goals and effective processes to achieve maximum performance from the IMS Field Technician teams.  She provides oversight in fleet maintenance and provides feedback and develops processes to achieve company metrics. Her extensive Project Management background affords her a strong base in providing decisive leadership direction and a compassion to her team in being able to relate to their needs and building a strong rapport and trust with them. Before joining IMS, Tammy developed her advanced Project Management skills over several industries including telecom, engineering/construction and advertisement.

John Day
Senior Equipment Technician

John Day provides service and support to the IMS fleet of vehicles and equipment.  This includes multiple RST's and Dynaflects, and spare parts needed for 100 percent up time.  Mr. Day is also the first point of contact for the field crew members regarding technical issues, ensuring that concerns are addressed in a timely manner. Prior to joining the IMS team, he served in the Marine Corps as a RADAR Technician, and earned an Associates of Arts in General Studies and an Associates of Science in GIS.  

Roy Barkman, P.E.
Project Engineer

Roy Barkman is responsible for processing the data that is collected by the RST. This entails running several proprietary software systems and completing thorough QA/QC checks on the data to ensure proper Pavement Condition Index calculations. Roy has also begun to undertake the analysis and project management of several IMS clients. Before moving to Arizona and joining IMS nearly 8 years ago, Roy was enrolled at Ohio Northern University.​

David Bratton
Project Engineer
Mr. Bratton is involved in several aspects of the pavement and asset management process, from working with clients to determine project goals and data quality assurance/analysis, to comprehensive report generation. During his time with IMS Mr. Bratton has worked with multiple condition rating methodologies and created pavement management systems in multiple 3rd party applications. Although his primary responsibilities are office related, Mr. Bratton has also collected pavement condition data and right of way asset data information in the field. Prior to IMS, Mr. Bratton worked for the McHenry County DOT.
